TREASURE THE TRADITION .
My cousin’s grandmother had handcrafted rattan’s product since almost fifty years’. Through the uneven feature of her hands tells the many years of hard work and training through the weaving process.
She said: “Nowadays younger generations have no interests to learn this kind of handcraft skill which resulted the art of rattan weaving is going extinct in the future. Replacing the handcrafted rattan nowadays are those mass manufactured by factories. These really cause the handcrafted rattan becoming rare and also very expensive to sustain. So sad that this art is going to lost in the future. Handcrafted able to custom made for the customer needs.”
The art of rattan weaving is one of our local heritages, and we have the responsibility to educate our children to appreciate and treasure them before totally going in extinction.
